About the Project
DINO-PATH is a cross-border cooperation project focused on the conservation of sturgeons in the Black Sea region, with particular attention to the Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii).
The project unites institutions from Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania with the aim of enhancing knowledge on sturgeon migration, habitats and conservation needs, and of strengthening regional cooperation.
Project Aim and Objectives
The project aims to support the conservation of sturgeons and their habitats in the Black Sea Basin through joint research, monitoring, knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement. Its main objectives are to:
- improve knowledge on sturgeon distribution, migration routes and habitat use;
- implementation of telemetry-based monitoring methods;
- identify the important habitats, migration corridors and threats;
- strengthen cross-border scientific coloboration and exchange of data;
- increase stakeholder and public awareness on sturgeon conservation.
Expected Results
The project is expected to provide improved scientific information on sturgeon movements and habitats, strengthen cooperation among institutions, support harmonised monitoring approaches and increase awareness of the need to protect sturgeons and their migration routes.
Financial Support
The total budget of the DINO-PATH project is EUR 1,445,719.80.
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, with an Interreg contribution of 90%, corresponding to EUR 1,301,147.82.
